Thank you for considering the Learn to Drum Academy as your child’s drumming school of choice. The Princely music empire began, in the early 1960s with one of Durban’s finest musicians, Robert Princely. Over half a century later, the Princely musical legacy continues through Jared Princely, a second generation performing artist and a collection of carefully selected budding Princely Drummers.
At the Learn to Drum Academy, we believe that one of the greatest gifts a parent can give a child, is to help them find their talent, therefore Princely Drummers begin as early as 4 years old and grow within the school well into their adulthood and professionalism. Secondly, we understand that there is only one word that can be used to describe every child that passes through the academy; different. Therefore, our main focus is to develop Princely Drummers based on their strengths, style and passion. We strive to offer a quality, nurturing, and a productive learning environment for each of our Drummers, and every interaction is an opportunity to learn and play in a variety of different ways. In addition to musical development, the Learn to Drum Academy acknowledges the strong link between neurocognitive development and drumming; which suggests that drumming improves prefrontal cognitive functioning, attention, memory, learning, motor function and a number of other functions that can be applied to music, learning at school and development through various childhood stages. Thus the music development team has carefully created a programme under the guidance of experienced neuroscientist, for holistic benefit of your child.
Our curriculum is based on different units and levels outlined in the Academy’s Syllabus Brochure and ranges from beginner, intermediate, advanced and professional level drummers. Communication between the academy and home is extremely important to each child’s success, so we encourage you to contact us at any time.
